Claris announces the future direction for FileMaker

Claris FileMaker solutions have always provided their clients with an easy-to-use platform that allows solutions to deliver exceptional value whilst solving your business problems.

While many of the problems faced by clients are similar, the solution is often unique to each client and as such requires a custom solution. Claris FileMaker platform has enabled the delivery of these solutions for over 30 years.

Claris is now ensuring that they can take this ease of problem solving through long into the future.

Introducing: The Claris Platform

In September 2022 Claris announced the launch of the all-new Claris Platform, which will sit alongside their current FileMaker platform that provides complimentary functionality, flexibility and introduces a significant increase in scalability to FileMaker solutions.

So, let’s take a look at some of the differences between the two platforms.

Claris Pro

Claris Pro is equivalent to FileMaker Pro and allows you to create unique custom apps, meeting 100% of your needs.

The differences between Claris Pro and FileMaker Pro are:

Claris Pro is free until you need to collaborate. A big change from FileMaker Pro which started with a minimum of 5 users.
Claris Pro requires a Claris ID authentication and therefore an internet connection. You cannot open a file without being connected to the internet.
You can convert from and to Claris Studio tables.

Claris Go

Claris Go is the equivalent of FileMaker Go, running on iPhone and iPad. It requires a Claris ID and you have to be connected to the internet to use it.

Claris Server

Claris Server is the equivalent of FileMaker Server and runs only on Linux (FileMaker Server also runs on Windows, MacOS and FileMaker Cloud).

Claris Server does not support ODBC/JDBC gateway (you cannot publish Claris Server data via ODBC, and you can’t connect to an External Data Source (ESS)

Claris Server does not support any other authentication method than Claris ID, which means you cannot use OAuth or Active Directory.

Claris Connect

Claris Connect is Claris’ orchestration tool and is now integrated into the Claris Platform. It can still be purchased separately for use with FileMaker Pro.

Claris Studio

Claris Studio is a cloud service hosted by Claris only (hosted on US data servers for now and due to roll into Europe next year).

It allows you to design and publish forms, spreadsheets, Kanban visualisations and much more, pulling data from other data sources as well as Claris Server.
